Private music production/recording/mixing studio in the south of Holland.
I am a Musician's Institute educated guitar player in a band called 'Awash' and have been using my home studio mostly for producing tracks for that band in recent years. Over the years I've done a lot of stuff related to music and have picked up lots of tricks and ways of the trade.
On this channel I intend to post videos about the broader range of music related subjects that I'm currently involved with and am going through. This could be related to music production with Cubase, guitar playing, band related subjects, gear and anything else that I might come across on my journey.

Seems to be great the Blind Test. And very good that it has loudness compensation included.
Yes it’s very nice indeed!
MV2, Waves
Yes have used it before but just not extensively on Bass. Thanks for the tip!
Tip rolling is unfortunately in the core of the IEM game. Without good fit it's impossible to enjoy them and people ear canals vary a lot, even L to R, lol. I'm luckily got perfect fit and seal with stock em6l tips, very soft and comfy. I would recomend AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC 2 or to ressearch in SpinFit series, epecially W1. Manufacturers should start to provide 5 size tip variety instead of 3, especially in $100+ range. It costs cents.
Thanks for your reply. I did buy Spinfit W1 tips already and they do work better for in the studio. For on stage use I really need something that isolates better though. Currently using Shure ones with foam tips.
Spitfire Audio's Air Studio reverb plugin, money well spent. It puts the instruments in the room. I am a reverb freak, and this made my Cinematic Rooms and EW Spaces II redundant. Well worth a review if anything.
Thanks for that tip. I love reverb myself but this particular series is about FREE plugins which the Spiftire reverb is definitely not. May still have a look though.
I want to simply drag the track to its ideal location like in cubase 9.5 but in cubase 13 I can't do that. Why is this happening? All I want to do is drag it to thr exact spot. Not use some tool. I keep changing the time code feature or whatever it is but it doesn't work.
Not sure what's happening for you. I can drag audio events all over the place in Cubase 13. Or did you mean something else?
I use them both!
👍
Blind Test is great, have been using it for several years...nothing else like it out there as you say. Very useful, often use it for comparing mix or master versions. Project Time less so, unless you remember to tell it you've stopped working...the full version obviously solves this with its intelligent sensors but not sure it's worth it?
Haven’t tried the paid version of Project Time either yet, but blind test is great yes.
Have you tried these yet?
I've heard Cubasis has PDC issues or hasn't implemented PDC. Is this true?
I'm unfamiliar with those issues and was not sure if they implemented PDC in Cubasis. A quick search seems to suggest that they have indeed not yet added it: forums.steinberg.net/t/fabfilter-plugins-track-delay/825975
I like the sound of the plug in more. Its brighter
Yes it is that. Unfortunately I just heard that Steinberg has declared that product EOL.
As usual, great content Maarten!
Much appreciated!
I love the macro features of Cubase and I'm a long time Pro Tools user
Yes it's great!
Why can't I slip edit to the left?
Well you can only do that if there’s actually audio available to shift. Maybe there is not in your case?
@@LanewoodStudios Thank you audio is there.I can move it to the right. I cut a little to the left. so there should be room to move it.
You are the best. This is the clearest discussion of Cubase automation. Very very helpful thank you!
Glad you like it 😎😁
Very informative video and well demonstrated. I am a non-singer that desperately needs a singer when writing a song. I'm not sure I could even sing as well as you...okay, I'm sure I can't...lol. But you have given a great demo with just the comparisons I've been looking for. I work for a publisher and I can't even send him any more than lyrics to my songs. So this was exactly what I was looking for. My concerns are more to do with copyright ownership and buying some version outright instead of a subscription. Are my creative works able to be used by the company to further train their AIs? Adobe is getting some serious push-back from their users due to their new End User License Agreement. But this product is doing exactly what I need. As to your question about not using a real singer, my answer is no, this is both legally and morally acceptable in my view. There are so many legal implications that still need to be sorted by the courts, so time will tell. But these AI singers know exactly what their voices are used for and are being paid at the front end...so singers are being paid. Great video. Thank you.
Thanks and glad it was helpful. No idea about whether your input is used to train their AI but I for one don’t really care. But you can use the voice in commercial releases when you’re on a paid plan.
@@LanewoodStudios I really like this software but I would have to be using it on a semi-steady basis to warrant paying for a subscription. I'd like to shop around before I use this type of product. This is not the point though. The point here is that you created another video demonstrating another great tool we can add in our toolkit. Thanks again.
How much silence would be perfect in your project in front of the song for perfect mastering?
Not sure, maybe ask your mastering engineer. I typically don't add anything special which is not in the project already.
Thanks man! You helped me a lot with this video! :-)
Great!
By the way, I prefer Sonnox Drum Gate as I get more consistent results to Sonible when I have A/B them.
Haven't tried that one yet. There is also apparently a nice drum gate from BSA called Silencer I believe. Maybe I'll make a big drums gate shootout ;).
@@LanewoodStudios I'll look into it, thanks. One thing I noticed about the Sonible is that although it recognises each type of sound well, there are cases where I can not isolate it correctly and it is playing tails even at upper thresholds, and then if I move even 0.1db it's silence, i.e. I have encountered multiple situations where it simply does not work as intended, and the Sonnox thus far hasn't failed me, but it is way more complex a plugin to properly learn and use.
Wow the artefacts on Spectralayers are just awful, making it unusable for this kind of transient task, and the original loop was not even very complex! I can only imagine how much WORSE it can sound!
I guess SpectraLayers was not really meant for this purpose.
@@LanewoodStudios It's literally advertised as a stem separation tool.
Cool project! I will have to check out Audimee. Have you compared it to others like Vocs AI or Kits? If so, which do you think is better?
No I have not compared it to other options. Good idea though ;).
👏👏👏👏👏
👍
For mixing VSTs LIVE?
Not really meant for that I think. More for music production on the go.
Does it have a VSTs mixer app?
It has a mixer yes.
Sorry I had to stop this video, my brain have trouble to process your thish with the thiS, let’s fix it, if you have problem with the S then add an eq and cut some of the 3K and add some of the 6k and above maybe if needed, if not then stop useing a deesser .
Sorry you had to stop because of the sibilance. I've made some changes in more recent video, perhaps they sound better to you.
Unbelievable AI running very fast Thank you Marteen 👍👍
You're welcome and yes it's getting better and better!
Do you know if there is a wireless pedal for the iPad that can be used with the iC Pro app to Play, Pause and Record and also Undo and Redo, move between tracks, etc? Thanks for the video!
Haven’t heard of one of those no. I’d have to google it as well 😉.
Is this a metronome clicks?
Yes!
@@LanewoodStudios Thanks a lot👍
installing their vst's was one of the hardest things i have done in my life
In that case I would like to have a life like yours 😉.
I was amazed by the instruments, I used one of my older keyboards that has all kind of generic sounds and converted the saxophone with ai, it did the trick, it's better then Swam with a breath controller that I recently purchased. I'll subscribe to Audimee if they'll add more instruments.
Haven’t really tried the instruments yet but it sounds like I should. Thanks for the tip!
But why not simply using the Cubase built-in count-in feature???
Yes that’s probably the best option if you don’t need the count-in as audio in your project or want to play before beat 1. 👍
Can’t you just use pre-roll for the click, and it will stop once the music starts. Or am I missing something?
Yes I think that’s probably even a better idea if you don’t need audio for the click 👍.
Difference between a musician and a music producer. "The playing of the music s the music" Robert Fripp. Yes you can sound like another generic clone pro no problem :]
You could look at this as a special kind of processing too. Because there is still an initial performance.
Short ,crisp & nice tutorial. thanks
👍
Hello Sir, I am using Windows 11 and Android Tab, I have downloaded and installed Avid control App and EUCON on my Tab and PC. after adding my device when I opened my Cubase AI 13 the EUCON is not showing in the Add menu, list can you please guid me to resolve this issue
I don’t know what is wrong but you can have a look at their troubleshooting documentation. It is quite extensive.
@@LanewoodStudios okay
You can setup the number of bars that you want to count in the metronome setting and don`t set the metronome on so when you click recording it only will play the first one of two bars that you setup. Thank you for your videos because always I learn somenthing new.
That’s sounds like an even better way 😎
another tip: I often set 4 or 8 bars as negative time "pre beats before zero" in Cubase. This is very practical. I don't think any other DAW has this great feature. You can also store ideas and sketches in this "minus area"...
Thanks for those tips. Great idea!
Interesting when we use punch in/out markers in different locations than loop markers to record (but why use metronome in this case?), but otherwise the precount metronome option seems easier.
Yes that’s a great, probably better way that I should have mentioned 😉.
You can also use the precount metronome options for this, but anyway interesting to see another way!
Yes a great way that I should have mentioned 😁.
Thanks for this. There is also a count-in function option in the metronome section which counts-in from anywhere when you start recording which is helpful when you’re punching in 😉
Yes good one. Should have mentioned that as an option as well.
Very helpful, thanks!
🙏
Short / Clear / Precise. Thank you M
Thank you again Peter!
after watching your video I think I´ve found my preferred method: add that first measure to a drum instrument track in my template, so easy why didn´t I do it before?
Yes that's a very good way that I also talk about in the video. Assumes you have a drum instrument in your project though and you have to make sure that any reverb or delay on the drum instrument when playing the count-in does not spill into the project of course.
I should try to use macros more.....
Yes if you have a nice combination of commands, just turn it into a macro. Maybe a nice video topic 😉.
Nice 🔥
Thanks 🔥
Always great tuts from you. I'll use this one for sure. Thanks.
Excellent, enjoy!
When you insert silence, does it move markers and tempo/signature changes appropriately? Never used that function
Yes it moves everything up!
Do you know any easier way?
I only know in the online browser
@@Mix_Mastering not sure what you mean by that. Which online browser?
Please help me figure out the tap tempo

thanks for the heads up on audimee. 15 bucks for one hour per month would suit my current needs.
Go for it via my affiliate link 😉.
I would really want something that is not a subscription instead. Like voice swap
You can always hear the mechanical noise compared to a natural human voice
The Audimee voices are pretty good so have to really know what to listen for.
